What Requirements are needed for Same Day Registration
  • Proof of Residency: In all states that offer same-day registration, proof of residency is required. Election authorities have time to send a non-forwardable mailing to the prospective voter in a traditional (pre-Election Day) registration in order to verify the voter’s residence before processing the registration application in a traditional (pre-Election Day) registration. The prospective voter must provide proof of residency at the moment of registration or shortly afterward. In all states, a valid driver’s license or identification card will suffice. In certain areas, proof of residency might be as simple as a paycheck or a utility statement showing an address.A few states additionally allow an already-registered voter to attest for an Election Day registrant’s residency.

  • Voter ID: All SDR states additionally require voters to produce identification verification when registering and voting on Election Day. Some states demand a photo ID, while others permit non-photo IDs.
