Rising Soul

Rising_Soul_Cover_v2.inddRising Soul is a guidebook for readers of all ages who are traveling the path of self-purification and tarbiya. This book is a translation of Al-Mukhtasar Al-Mufid fee Tarbiyat An-Nafs by Dr. Muhammad Mansur, a simplified, condensed summary of some of the famous foundational works in self-purification such as Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali’s Revival of the Islamic Sciences (Ihyaa’ Ulum Ad-Deen). The Rising Soul translation, now in its third edition, was adapted and rewritten for a Muslim-American context, and relies on Islamic sources and contemporary examples to help the reader chart a path of self-improvement. Following a three-step approach, the book guides the reader to identify and attack bad habits in “Part One”, replace them with positive qualities in “Part Two”, and revitalize the soul with worship in “Part Three”.

Our daily schedules today are packed. Whether as students, professionals, parents, or activists, most Muslims struggle to spend even half an hour reading the Quran or properly performing the five daily prayers. Yet, we understand that true comfort depends on a close relationship with our Creator. Remembrance of Allah helps us establish this closeness with Him in our daily lives. This comfort and inner peace are described in Surah Ar-Ra’d: “Those who believe, and whose hearts find serenity in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find serenity.

Al-Ma’thurat is the title of a short work compiled by Hasan Al-Banna. The booklet consists of supplications and Quranic verses based on authentic sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to be recited mornings and evenings. Al-Ma’thurat is an answer to every Muslim’s need for a daily portion of dhikr—remembrance of Allah, Exalted and High—so that he or she can maintain a strong, steadfast connection with Him throughout daily life. For the Muslim activist, this connection with Allah is critical. Imam Al-Banna recognized the need for a daily portion of remembrance based upon authentic hadeeth— sayings of the Prophet. MAS encourages every Muslim to adopt a daily portion of remembrance and practice it devoutly, whether individually or in a group.
